Whitechapel
This is Exile
43:03 - 11 Tracks
Extreme, brutal, heavy, kind of along the lines of Job for a Cowboy and Cattle Decapitation. Just heavy and intense with the occasional brutal-core breakdown. I can’t say much more than you’ll hear it on the Mosh Pit!

Opiate for the Masses
Manifesto
Century Media
40:18 - 11 Tracks
This is kind of electronic/metal. One thing in the bio says it’s like Alice in Chains meets NIN. And as I always say about these bio quote thingers, they’re right on! Reminds me a little bit of Gravity Kills, but not quite as heavy/cool. haha. Songs are catchy enough, they’re just not like, all that heavy. We might be able to squeeze this in on the Mosh Pit.

Motley Crue
Saints of Los Angeles
Motley
44:08 - 13 Tracks
A pleasant surprise listening to this CD. It’s like the old Motley Crue came out of its cocoon after all these years. This is just waht the Crue should be sounding like. Vince’s out front vox, catchy raw-ish hard rock backing it up. The lyrics get kind of silly, but really… Motley Crue? Message? Yeah. The best song is probably the title track. You’ll hear something from this on the Mosh Pit!

Scar Symmetry
Holographic Universe
Nuclear Blast
58:44 - 12 Tracks
This is something that’s for fans of good ol Soilwork, In Flames, etc. Melodic death metal mixing clean vox with the death vox. Overall, it’s more of a “clean” metal album than death metal. Some good guitar shredding, catchy riffs, good mix of clean vox and death vox… although I think there are more clean than death vox as mentioned earlier. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Proofed
American Metal A Blend
Metal Ink
48:19 - 10 Tracks
Good ol hard rockin’ metal infused music. Unfortunately it’s hard for me to get past the production/mastering right off the bat. The cymbols have this ringy compressed sound, as if someone converted it to an mp3, then converted it to a lower quality mp3, then streamed it through some dialup internet. Sorry! Okay, now, trying to concentrate past the sound… the music is pretty good, solid, standard metal-type sound. Catchy choruses, fun lovin’ metal. Huh, looks like that annoying cymbal sound is gone after track two. The sound is better, still not ideal, but much better! You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit though!

Yo… After a week off, I’m back to posting this stuff, and I came back into a shitstorm of new releases… most of the reviews this week will be pretty short!  :)

Daylight Dies
Lost To The Living
Candlelight
51:33 - 9 Tracks
If I had to compare this to any bands, I’d say it’s like a Moonspell meets Opeth.  Pretty cool stuff, and I’m sure you’ll be hearing it on the Mosh Pit!

Imagika
Feast For The Hated
Locomotive
48:38 - 10 Tracks
This is what power metal should be.  Some over the top thrashin’ stuff mixed with some abrasive, yet classic metal sounding vocals.   The songs are catchy… get to some little melodic interlude, then just all out metal within a few seconds.  It gets to almost death/black metal musically in some parts… you’ll hear this on the ‘pit!!

Storms Approach
Storms Approach
n/a
29:05 - 8 Tracks
An indie release, which is mostly some metal edged hard rock with an operatic female vocalist.  The music is pretty good, the vocals sound great too, but it just may not be mosh pit material… especially with all of the competition this week.  We’ll try and work it in sometime!

Sweet Cobra
Forever
Metal Blade
45:10 - 8 Tracks
Fans of Mastodon’ed stoner metal will dig this!  Not quite as heavy as Mastodon, it’s just as catchy… oh, what the hell, it is just about as heavy… The more I think about it, it’s probably more like High On Fire.  You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Head On Collision
Ritual Sacrifice
Beer City
39:54 - 11 Tracks
Heavy, raw thrashy stuff!  I guess this could be comparable to old Exodus and the like.  Songs are to the point, no screwin’ around.  Tends to follow the trend of good ol school thrash that’s been pretty big lately.  You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Slipknot
All Hope Is Lost SINGLE
Roadrunner
4:45 - 1 Track
Just one track from their forthcoming album… it’s what you would come to expect from Slipknot.  It’s totally heavy and over the top and everything that makes Slipknot, Slipknot.  You’ll hear it on the ‘Pit

Aborted
Strychnine.213
Century Media
37:12 - 10 Tracks
Awesome over the top death metal, there’s an awesome groove underlying the all out brutality on this CD.  There’s just great heavy abrasive brutal vocals, with fast drumming, but all the while, there’s just this groove.  It’s kind of hard to explain, but once you hear it, it’s so damn catchy… you’ll not want to stop listening!

Made Out Of Babies
The Ruiner
The End
42:32 - 9 Tracks
Something you might think would be on Relapse Records… Female fronted experimental-ish hardrocky noise stuff.  Though, by the “for fans of…”listing, I’d normally be turned off right away… Jesus Lizard, Melvins, Neurosis, Today is the Day… blech…. kind of a who’s who of bands I don’t like.   Anyways, listening to it, there’s just something about it that makes me not want to turn it off.  The female vocals are not really metal, but something about her voice just makes it work.  The music is kind of “stoner metal”  But overall, it’s fairly “noisey”

Blacklist Union
Breakin Bread With The Devil
Blu Records
30:33 - 10 Tracks
Old school Hard Rock stuff, a la Motley Crue, etc.  Good at what they do, however, not totally mosh pit material.  Songs are catchy, melodic and all that stuff…

John 5
Requiem
Adrenaline
43:01 - 10 Tracks
The well known John 5 from Marilyn Manson and more recently in Rob Zombies band.  An accomplished guitarist, this is some good hard rock/metal solo guitar stuff.  The backing band is John 5 on everything but Drums… the skins are handled by the guy from Rob Zombie’s band…Tommy Clufetos.  Overall it’s pretty cool, nothing super awesome, nothing that really sucks.  Some great shredding and catchy stuff on here.

Hydrogyn
Deadly Passions
Demolition
41:38 - 10 Tracks
This is some hard rock’ fe-metal stuff.  Music is fairly straghtforward hard rock, catchy melodic hooks and all that jazz.  Good at what they are doing, but may not be mosh pit material, again, with a lot of the competition!

Keep of Kalessin
Kolossus
Nuclear Blast
54:25 - 9 Tracks
We saw these guys open for Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir not to far back, and they kicked some major ass. Mike purchased their previous CD and it was pretty good, so the expectations were pretty high and they delivered. Now for their new CD, which I was happy to hear about at the show, that it’d be early June, and here we are, early June, and the album is in the CD player, with a nice cute melodic intro, building anticipation of the slaughter my hears are about to get. Sure enough, clean production, tight, fast technical majestic black metal. Some parts slow down and get a little melodic, but I think that adds to the greatness of what they do. You’ll hear this a lot on the Mosh Pit!

Catelepsy
Iniquity
Stillborn
26:45 - 10 Tracks
The bio sheet that came with this, says that they are “hardcore-influenced death metal” I would have to agree… some of the “breakdowny” sounds, along with a mostly” Six Feet Under” pace of death metal. On occasion, the music gets real fast, with some blast beats, other spots, it’s a bit plodding and sludgey Pretty good overall. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Human Zoo
Over The Horizon
Locomotive
46:40 - 12 Tracks
These guys have the Whitesnake anthemic hard rock metal thing down. They’ve got some power ballads, some standard 80’s-like hard rock/hair metal Dokken type songs. Unless someone has some big time requests for this, it probably won’t get aired on the Mosh Pit.

Romans
All Those Wrists
Blackmarket Activities
23:41 - 12 Tracks
A bit experimental, metal, hard rock, stoner metal, hardcore. A lot of different stuff happening in not a lot of time. The songs are very short, and there’s a wide variety of things going on. Needless to say, they don’t mess around much, nor do they have much to say! It’s definitely worth checking out on the Mosh Pit!

Lauren Harris
Calm Before The Storm
Demolition
47:09 - 12 Tracks
This is the daughter of Iron Maiden’s Steve Harris. I’m pretty sure she’ll always be mentioned in the same breath as her dad. He plays on some tracks and helped write a few. Apparently, the person who discovered her didn’t know about her relation to Steve…. I guess I can believe that…. she’s got a good voice… The CD is pretty straightforward hard rock almost pop rock album. You’ll hear some of this on the Mosh Pit!

Others that didn’t arrive in time for review:…Verse, Nachtmystium, Agenda of Swine
