Yo… After a week off, I’m back to posting this stuff, and I came back into a shitstorm of new releases… most of the reviews this week will be pretty short! :)
Daylight Dies
Lost To The Living
Candlelight
51:33 - 9 Tracks
If I had to compare this to any bands, I’d say it’s like a Moonspell meets Opeth. Pretty cool stuff, and I’m sure you’ll be hearing it on the Mosh Pit!
Imagika
Feast For The Hated
Locomotive
48:38 - 10 Tracks
This is what power metal should be. Some over the top thrashin’ stuff mixed with some abrasive, yet classic metal sounding vocals. The songs are catchy… get to some little melodic interlude, then just all out metal within a few seconds. It gets to almost death/black metal musically in some parts… you’ll hear this on the ‘pit!!
Storms Approach
Storms Approach
n/a
29:05 - 8 Tracks
An indie release, which is mostly some metal edged hard rock with an operatic female vocalist. The music is pretty good, the vocals sound great too, but it just may not be mosh pit material… especially with all of the competition this week. We’ll try and work it in sometime!
Sweet Cobra
Forever
Metal Blade
45:10 - 8 Tracks
Fans of Mastodon’ed stoner metal will dig this! Not quite as heavy as Mastodon, it’s just as catchy… oh, what the hell, it is just about as heavy… The more I think about it, it’s probably more like High On Fire. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!
Head On Collision
Ritual Sacrifice
Beer City
39:54 - 11 Tracks
Heavy, raw thrashy stuff! I guess this could be comparable to old Exodus and the like. Songs are to the point, no screwin’ around. Tends to follow the trend of good ol school thrash that’s been pretty big lately. You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit!
Slipknot
All Hope Is Lost SINGLE
Roadrunner
4:45 - 1 Track
Just one track from their forthcoming album… it’s what you would come to expect from Slipknot. It’s totally heavy and over the top and everything that makes Slipknot, Slipknot. You’ll hear it on the ‘Pit
Aborted
Strychnine.213
Century Media
37:12 - 10 Tracks
Awesome over the top death metal, there’s an awesome groove underlying the all out brutality on this CD. There’s just great heavy abrasive brutal vocals, with fast drumming, but all the while, there’s just this groove. It’s kind of hard to explain, but once you hear it, it’s so damn catchy… you’ll not want to stop listening!
Made Out Of Babies
The Ruiner
The End
42:32 - 9 Tracks
Something you might think would be on Relapse Records… Female fronted experimental-ish hardrocky noise stuff. Though, by the “for fans of…”listing, I’d normally be turned off right away… Jesus Lizard, Melvins, Neurosis, Today is the Day… blech…. kind of a who’s who of bands I don’t like. Anyways, listening to it, there’s just something about it that makes me not want to turn it off. The female vocals are not really metal, but something about her voice just makes it work. The music is kind of “stoner metal” But overall, it’s fairly “noisey”
Blacklist Union
Breakin Bread With The Devil
Blu Records
30:33 - 10 Tracks
Old school Hard Rock stuff, a la Motley Crue, etc. Good at what they do, however, not totally mosh pit material. Songs are catchy, melodic and all that stuff…
John 5
Requiem
Adrenaline
43:01 - 10 Tracks
The well known John 5 from Marilyn Manson and more recently in Rob Zombies band. An accomplished guitarist, this is some good hard rock/metal solo guitar stuff. The backing band is John 5 on everything but Drums… the skins are handled by the guy from Rob Zombie’s band…Tommy Clufetos. Overall it’s pretty cool, nothing super awesome, nothing that really sucks. Some great shredding and catchy stuff on here.
Hydrogyn
Deadly Passions
Demolition
41:38 - 10 Tracks
This is some hard rock’ fe-metal stuff. Music is fairly straghtforward hard rock, catchy melodic hooks and all that jazz. Good at what they are doing, but may not be mosh pit material, again, with a lot of the competition!
