Bondage Goat Zombie

Besides having a ridiculous album title, the music on here is pretty solid. It’s catchy, some good chugga chugga, and I’d say it’s in the heavy thrashy death metal area with a bunch of splashes of black metal. I don’t think these guys make it to church on Sundays, but as I’ve mentioned in the past, I can’t really understand what they say, I generally view the vocals as another instrument and how it works with the music. So yah, it’s good, evil sounding, heavy and has good production. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Unblessing The Purity EP
Peaceville

Mikael Akerfeldt is back! Something about his death growls make me happy! This EP is brutal. It just has a dark vibe, the music is fast, catchy, well, almost like the heavy Opeth songs… These songs are short and to the point though. This is good stuff… no brainer as to if this will be on the Mosh Pit! Tune in!!
Dream Theater
Forsaken Tour Sampler
Roadrunner Records
34:05 - 8 Tracks
Roadrunner records it putting a push on DT for their upcoming tour. How better to do that, than to release a single for the newest video and add some previously unreleased live tracks. Being a huge fan of Dream Theater, this sort of thing is always welcome in my inbox, as well as good for a little airplay!

Napalm Records

Usually I’m touting how great the genre definition of Napalm Records is… In this case, these guys (girls) are “Nordic Folk Metal” I’m not hearing the “folk” very strongly in this. While it does have a little bit of the mid-career Amorphis vibe, it’s just not very bouncy and folksie as most bands described as “folk metal” seem to be. It just seems to be a run-of-the-mill femetal… it is of course fairly catchy. You’ll probably hear a track on the Mosh Pit. (Most of the tracks on this promo have those annoying voice-overs… no thanks!)

When Angels & Serpents Dance
INO/Columbia
51:26 - 13 Tracks
While these guys are good at what they do… they aren’t a great fit for the Mosh Pit lately. Songs on this CD are kind of catchy, melodic, and more along the lines of Hard Rock than metal. This release might be better served on other stations in town.
Whitesnake
Good To Be Bad
SPV

First album in over a decade. Celebrating their 30th Anniversary, I guess they decided to come out with a new album! It’s kind of funny, as I’ve been comparing a lot of these new releases from other hard rock bands to being like “Whitesnake” David Coverdale has been busy fronting Thin Lizzy the last few years, so he’s still got the vocal chops… His voice sounds great, the music is up to snuff and works well. While I think other stations will play the POD, I don’t think anyone will be playing this… It’ll be good for a track or two just for nostalgia’s sake! The title track rocks pretty good!
