The sound on this 2 cd set is incredible. This really does capture how great Opeth is live. A great selection of tracks recorded in November 2006 in the UK. If you’ve seen Opeth, you should get this because it’s a memento of a great band’s live show… if you’ve never seen them you should get this to see what you are missing. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

This is a bit doomy, but mostly dark metal, also, a bit like Mastodon. They’ve been around since 1993, so maybe we should say Mastodon is more like Primordial? It’s pretty dark and heavy in parts, not thrashy or deathy, just meaty, dark and heavy. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

This bio sheet says it’s for fans of Mastodon, Meshuggah and BTBAM, and you know, as with last week, dead on, from the first notes, it sounds just like a Meshuggah-ized Mastodon. It’s a neat 2-cd set, with the first disc being one of those mini-cds, but not, it’s a full size, but the outside part is all clear with the design stuff on it. It’s got some punk elements, hardcore, but mostly stoner, experimental technical hard rock/metal. A lot of adjectives to throw around. The first disk is mostly the Mastodon-y Meshuggah/hardcore stuff. Disc 2 gets into the longer songs, and more experimental progressive stuff. There is a little something for everyone here, so you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

So, yeah, a great thing to do for fans! Each track is intro’ed by Chad. Even though Mudvayne hasn’t been a huge Mosh Pit band recently, this is something cool we’ll play.

They take their formula of funky punky proggy poppy metal and stay with it on this new self titled release.  Songs are catchy, put together pretty good and it’s interesting to listen to.  Plenty of good metal riffs to go around.  These guys aren’t for everyone, but damn, it sure is catchy!! You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Grip Inc. axeman come producer, Waldemar Sorychta’s new band, Eyes of Eden features female vocals, and not in the way of Arch Enemy, more in the vein of Lacuna Coil, clean and singy/operatic.  The music is fairly straightforward hard rock/euro metal sounding.  There are some short parts where it gets a bit heavier, but overall, a straight forward hard rock/simple metal female fronted band.

What can you say… Slayer DVD… some live tracks, while it’s not being there, they pull this stuff off pretty awesome live and these songs sound pretty good.  On this sampler, we have Eyes of the Insane, South of Heaven and Angel of Death.  The only thing missing is a hot room, ear splitting amps, lots of smoke and a big ass moshpit.  Since our show is called the Mosh Pit, I think it’s safe to say you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Well, this is just way heavy, has a little bit of everything.  I guess you could call it experimental, I think that’s the label you give something when you can’t pigeonhole a metal sub-genre.  It’s heavy, a little bit core, fast, a bit stoner-like, a little sludgey, yet kind of proggy.  What’s nice is a lot of bands like this make 8-10 minute songs that go on forever, most of the tracks on this CD are a couple minutes, with a few exceptions.  This means these tracks are to the point without a lot of fucking around.  You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit.

This is described as “Folk Metal” and yeah, the pied piper flute sounds pretty much does that, otherwise, it’s some darker old Amorphis black/death metal sound.  It is pretty catchy, and good quality stuff.  It’s good quality death metal too.  While it didn’t make the top 5 this week, You will hear it on the Mosh Pit!

This is their collection of covers.  While not all metalled up, or all that great for that matter, as a Ryche fan, you’ll have to pick this up to hear their spin on all of these tracks.  Say all you want about this band losing their creativity (all the mindcrime stuff, live albums, greatest hits, re-releases and now this cover album), they ARE still together and keeping themselves out there.  Geoff Tate does seem to just sound the same on every song, there isn’t much change in his vocal dynamic from song to song/style to style.  Geoff is just Geoff.  You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit from time to time.

A Bit like Meshuggah, but more accessible.  It’s not quite as technical and out there, but the sound is similar, it’s heavy, “experimental”, but yet concise.  This arrived late in the mail from last week.  So if there’s time, we’ll play it!

Pretty decent metal.  Sounds a bit like Pantera in parts.  This was another one that came late with the above Scarpoint CD.  There’s some good shredding, vocals are a bit like Phil and some tracks get going pretty good.  You may hear this on the Mosh Pit.
